SHILLONG: Indian Navy detected the fifth body of a miner, who was trapped along with others, on Tuesday evening with the help of remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV).
An official said the body was found inside the 230 feet flooded rate hole coal mine where the third and fourth miners’ bodies were located.
The ROV had earlier detected the third body on Saturday and the fourth one on Monday.
“The bodies were decomposed and fell apart when pulled by ROV thereby making it difficult for their recovery”, the official added.
After the 15 miners were trapped in the mine at Ksan village on December 13, the ROV had detected the first body on January 16, and the second one on January 26.
Till date, the Navy retrieved only the body of Amir Hussain from Assam’s Chirang district on January 23.
