SHILLONG: National Science Day 2019 on the theme ‘Science for People and People for Science’ was celebrated at the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, at its campus in Upper Shillong, on Thursday.
The National Science Day is celebrated on this day to mark the Nobel Prize winning discovery of ‘Raman Effect’ by Indian physicist Sir C V Raman.
A large number of school students and teachers participated in the celebration at IBSD, which threw its gates open to them to give them an insight into various research programmes.
The scientists and scholars of IBSD led the scientific interactions and also gave students a tour of the R&D facilities and apprised them of the ongoing programmes at the institute.
Meanwhile in Garo Hills, National Science Day was celebrated at Don Bosco College in Tura.
The inaugural function kicked off at the college premises during the assembly gathering. Programme co-ordinator Madhusudhan Saha highlighted the significance of National Science Day and Rev Fr Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, SDB, Principal of the college lauded the Science department of the college for their contribution.
The inaugural session was followed by a seminar at Bosco Hall on Raman Spectroscopy by Arindam Ghosh, Human Calender presentation by Habul Das and top science news and quiz competition by Madhusudhan Saha.
