HC takes up water quality case

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has claimed that water quality is maintained in the city.
In an affidavit filed before the High Court, the board said, “Quality of the treated water with regard to pH was maintained.”
“It conforms to the acceptable limit for drinking water standard.”
“Oil and grease in the water samples could not be detected.”
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice SR Sen took up the pending PIL on the matter on Friday.
Harisabha-Lumkartik area
The affidavit filed by the government reveals that the officials of Public Health Engineering Department and Shillong Municipal Board have assessed the water supply scenario in Harisabha-Lumkartik area of Laban and a futuristic plan has been prepared at a revised estimate of Rs 23,23,240.
It was further stated that the work is in full swing and 80 per cent of the work has been completed.
The matter will come up for hearing after a couple of weeks.
