SHILLONG: The High Level Committee (HLC) on the harijan Colony issue would meet soon after the district council elections process is completed to take a call on the recent ruling of the high court asking both parties to approach the civil court to seek redressal on this long-pending matter.
Talking to media persons here on Friday, Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling said that the HLC would soon meet to deliberate on the issue and to decide on the way forward.
“The HLC will deliberate in detail on the ruling given by the High Court,” he said.
Earlier, the High Court of Meghalaya had entrusted the civil court to resolve the dispute over Harijan Colony. During the hearing of the pending case recently, Justice SR Sen had said the civil court would be the right forum since the matter was civil in nature.
It may be mentioned that the HLC, which was constituted by the state government last year following the violence in Motphran, has in the meantime examined various records and documents pertaining to the colony.
