SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has asserted that it has not discussed anything about dropping BJP from the MDA after the recent fiasco over the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Senior leader of the party, Allantry Dkhar, had earlier said that the UDP along with other partners of the MDA want BJP to be dropped from the alliance.
However, UDP chief Donkupar Roy on Saturday told reporters that there is a feeling among some members of the party that BJP should be dropped from the alliance, but the matter has not been discussed.
He questioned if any benefit would be derived from dropping BJP from the alliance and whether it would help the people of the state in any manner.
“If there was any positive point in dropping BJP, we would have done it on our own, but we don’t see any such thing,” Roy said.
Stating that the demand to drop BJP from the alliance was not the official view of the party, he, however, added that there may be instances when some leaders may air their personal opinion.
“We have maintained that we are not with BJP, but with NEDA and only on certain issues, and not on each and everything”, he said.
Roy, however, added that if there is really a need to drop the BJP from the alliance, the UDP will definitely discuss about it.
