SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) was a setback for some MLAs who had high hopes on the candidates they were banking on.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh campaigned for his wife Amanda Annette Pakynteiñ but was surprised when seasoned politician Martle Mukhim emerged victorious from Mawkynrew. Nephews of two BJP MLAs, AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai lost the elections.
Ricky Shullai lost to newcomer, Mitchel Wankhar.
Candidates supported by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Umroi MLA George B. Lyngdoh’s candidate, Jansing M. Tynsong and Micky Daughlas Syiem lost the elections to the KHADC.
The election was also a setback for Congress MLA from Mawsynram, Hima Shangpliang as his relative, Rudy Shangpliang lost to Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie.
In Nongpoh, which was the constituency of DD Lapang, the Congress won and the NPP candidate backed by the veteran leader came third.
