SHILLONG: The state BJP has decided to field candidates from both Shillong and Tura seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The decision was taken during the state executive committee meeting of the party attended by its top leaders, including Ajay Jamwal, the BJP general secretary in-charge of North East Zone, state party president and candidates who contested the last state Assembly elections.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, BJP leader and Cabinet Minister, AL Hek, said that the State Executive Committee has also asked the state party president to immediately constitute the State Election Committee after which the process of inviting applications from prospective
candidates would begin.
“We have not zeroed in on anybody, but we have 4 – 5 people in our mind who have also shown interest to contest the elections as BJP candidates.
When asked if the decision of the party to field candidates would hamper the MDA, which is looking to field common candidates, Hek said that the ruling alliance has not yet decided in this regard.
He said that different political parties supporting the alliance want to contest the Lok Sabha elections and HSPDP and UDP have already decided on their common candidates with the latter naming Jemino Mawthoh.
Similarly, the PDF is also contemplating to field its own candidate, Hek said.
