SHILLONG: With the UPD, an ally in the MDA government, insisting on fielding common candidate from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat in the next Parliamentary election, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the matter would be discussed before arriving at a final decision.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday here, he said, “We will discuss and we have made it clear that we are open to discussion, we will see how things go and will take a decision at the right time.”
The picture for common candidate is still hazy with MDA allies such as People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) have shown keen interest to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
The HSPDP has already named its party general secretary, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as the common candidate. Similarly, the UDP also named its general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh as the common candidate.
UDP and HSPDP are part of an alliance, Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA).
The BJP which is another ally in the MDA government has preferred to go solo for Lok Sabha polls.
