Pension scheme launched for workers from unorganised sector

Shillong/Tura: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Pension Scheme during a programme at the Yojana Bhavan here.
In his brief address, Tynsong said the pension scheme is aimed at providing financial security to workers from the unorganised sector.
He urged workers to register themselves and avail the benefits of the pension scheme.
PM-SYM is a pension scheme targetted to help those working as maids, helpers, labourers, hawkers and small shop owners whose monthly income is Rs 15,000 or less. To avail the scheme, the beneficiary has to be in the age group of 18-40 years.
For enrolment process workers have to visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) along with their Aadhaar card and a savings bank account number. After verification, the exact monthly contribution from each worker will be calculated. The contribution may vary from Rs 55 to Rs 200 per month.
During the enrolment process they have to make the first contribution by cash and sign the computer generated auto debit mandate form following which they will be provided the Shram Yogi Pension Card. The entire enrolment process takes around 3 to 5 minutes.
During the programme, pension cards were presented to come of the beneficiaries.
In Tura, the pension scheme was launched at a programme held at the DRDA Conference Hall on Tuesday. The MLA of North Tura, Thomas A Sangma, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
A similar programme was held in North Garo Hills where around 200 workers enrolled themselves for the pension scheme.
