Meghalaya Governor highlights progress in construction projects

SHILLONG: The Governor Tathataga Roy highlighted a few construction projects undertaken by Meghalaya government for various purposes in his address on the first day of the Budget Session of State Assembly on Friday.

Under Social Welfare programmes, the Governor said the construction of working women’s hostels under Special Plan Assistance at Shillong and Tura had been completed.

He also informed that the construction of Juvenile Home in Mawkasiang, Shillong for children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection was completed and another in Tura was currently under construction.

Again, he said a Juvenile school up to 10th standard was also proposed during the current year in the complex of juvenile home in Mawkasiang, Shillong.

Referring to the General Administrative Department (GAD), Roy said the construction of the Governor’s House at Tura was at an advanced stage of completion.

Other projects taken up through PWD (Building) included creation of infrastructure in New districts such as in Mawkyrwat, Khliehriat, Resubelpara, Ampati. The Governor said that the projects were nearing completion.

With regard to the much-awaited Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building, the Governor said the state government was planning to construct a New Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at Mawdiangdiang in which administrative approval for an amount of Rs 141 crore had been accorded.
