Irregularities in recruitment process rock Assam, CM orders probe

GUWAHATI: Even as allegation of gross irregularities job has rocked Panchayat and Rural Development (P & RD) Department and the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has constituted a one-man inquiry committee to probe into allegations pertaining to P&RD department.

Taking a suo moto cognizance of the reported controversy regarding appointments, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordered formation of a one-man enquiry committeeby Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah to inquire into the whole episode and submit report to the government at the earliest.

The alleged irregularities have been widely reportedly in a section of media in the state in connection to appointment into permanent posts in Panchayat and Rural Development Department.

Even as P & RD minister Naba Kumar Doley have refuted the allegations,  Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has threatened to lay siege to the secretariat of the department on March 11. The opposition Congress has demanded a judicial probe into the job scandal while the APCC president Ripun Bora alleged saffronisation of the  recruitment process.

Meanwhile, another allegation of job scandal has rocked the DIPR Assam over recruitment of 64 staff in different grades and wings of the department under the direct supervision of an OSD of the department. It has been reported that in case of some of the fresh recruits, the written test was conducted on March 3, results were declared on March 4 , police verification done within 24 hours and they were allowed to join on March 5 raising questions about the entire recruitment process.

The one-man inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary, Jishnu Baruah has called for written representation from individuals and organisations who may have information regarding the allegation of irregularities in recruitment carried out by P & RD department. Such representation must be submitted by March 25 next.

Such representation can also be handed over to Rakesh Baruah of P & RD department in the Room No. 2 of Guwahati Circuit House between 11 am to 4 pm
