3 arrested with stolen batteries

SHILLONG: Police have arrested three persons and seized a truck loaded with batteries stolen from mobile phone towers.
Theft of batteries has been reported frequently from the rural areas.
SP (City) Steve Rynjah informed that police swung into action after a mobile company lodged a complaint that a large number of batteries were stolen from their installation at Wahlyngkhat in Pynursla.
Police later formed a special team.
They received information about the trucks in which the batteries were being transported and accordingly laid a trap which led to the arrest of R Ali, S Ali and M Marak. Their role was to drop the batteries at a particular location in Ri Bhoi district bordering Assam.
Police have received information that some persons in Ri Bhoi are involved in the racket and more than 100 batteries have been seized.
A battery costs about Rs 6000.
Meanwhile, Lewanki Pala lodged a complaint that on February 28 and March 1, miscreants stole sixteen batteries valued around Rs. 16 lakh from eight trucks which were parked at Amjajer-Roko village NH-40, West Jaintia Hills.
