Fund from Punjab for Harijan Colony went to Ri Bhoi too

SHILLONG: With the issue of fund allotment by the Punjab government to the residents of Harijan Colony figuring in the Assembly, a functionary of the colony said on Tuesday that when the then Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal visited Shillong in 2016, he had also donated Rs 5 lakh to Thandnongiaw village in Ri Bhoi district.
The functionary said this was besides the allotment of Rs 10 lakh to Guru Nanak School. Earlier on Monday, Congress legislator Process T Sawkmie during the question hour raised the issue.
In reply, Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling had said the Punjab government sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the development of the school, besides Rs 1.50 lakh for treatment of 10 widows living in the area.
He had said the funds were routed through the office of the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills.
