Exhibition of Ministry of I & B on Mahatma Gandhi concludes

GUWAHATI: A week-long programme of songs, dramas and exhibition concluded on Sunday at the premises of Assam Khadi & Village Industries Board with a series of cultural event. The seven-day event saw various performances viz. dance, drama, interactive sessions and discussions. The week-long exhibition was held on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati.

As part of the celebration, Dandi March anniversary on 12th March was commemorated through bhajans and other live art programmes at the Exhibition. The life and works of the father of the nation were displayed in the exhibition through literature and photographs with focus on rare photographs and complete timeline. The exhibition attracted people from all quarters and of all ages.

On the sideline of the exhibition, as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program for the ensuing elections, on 15th March an interactive session on “Social media in the light of Model code of conduct” was also held. The target audience for the session was first time voters, where students from different colleges of the city participated. Representatives from the election department and MCMC (Media Certification & Monitoring Committee), Assam exhorted everyone to come forward and exercise their right to vote.  A quiz competition was also held among the students.

A media workshop for the journalists of the city, Vartalap was also organised on the opening day of the exhibition on the theme “Income tax act and its application in tribal areas”. Officials from the IT Department, Guwahati were able to clear many of the myths and misconception regarding Income Tax in Tribal areas. The officials also shared with the pressmen various other provisions of Income Tax like ‘The Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016.

During the week there were hosts of other programme like skits on social issues, national integration and the Northeast. Every day the exhibition saw cultural programmes like mimes, folk dances depicting culture and tradition of different tribes of Assam and other parts of the Northeast. The programmes were performed by the Staff Artistes and Registered Troupes of Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati.
