SHILLONG:   As the parliamentary elections  are approaching, various surveillance and static teams have been activated in the city and in the East Khasi Hills district to ensure that objectionable materials including unaccounted cash are not transshipped during the poll period.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Bhagotia said that different surveillance and   static teams had been activated and they were conducting checking in different parts of the city and the district.

The job of these teams is basically to ensure that  cash beyond certain limits is not carried except  unless the sources of the money is substantiated by documents besides ensuring that   other substances such as illegal liquor also do not get transshipped.

Different such teams were seen conducting checking in various entry and exit points of the city on Thursday.

Bhagotia however said that the checking was being conducted without disturbing the people and all the teams were ensuring that citizens were not harassed.

Apart from the checking, security arrangement is also being worked out as the polling day is approaching.

So far, 11 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have already arrived in the city and more companies are expected to arrive later.

Meanwhile,   the  administration is also adopting every measure to ensure maximum participation during the upcoming Lok Sabha polls

From banners, posters to street plays and 3D installation of election-related monoliths, the department is gearing Shillong city up for the festival of democracy.

As part of ongoing multi media campaign on voter education and electoral participation & awareness, 3D installations representing the EVM machines and  ECI theme have been symbolically installed in the heart of Shillong city at  Khyndailad rotary for visibility.

Street plays on various electoral themes covering inclusive voting, clean ethical voting and others are also being conducted to ensure maximum participation since there is urban apathy in the city and the turnout of voters is usually not very high.

Bhagotia also informed that video clippings about voting in election would also be played in different multiplexes and cinema halls in the city to encourage mass participation in the election.
