SHILLONG: In an effort to make West Shillong a charcoal and kerosene-free constituency, an organization, Khati Bongs, distributed gas burners and cylinders to 10 BPL families on Thursday.
The items were distributed during Holi fest 2.0 in Mawprem with the support of local MLA, Mohendro Rapsang.
In his address to the gathering, Rapsang said that the objective of the initiative is to reduce the use of charcoal and kerosene in the constituency.
“We want to encourage the people to give up charcoal and kerosene and use gas instead since it makes the life of people easier and protects the environment as well,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khati Bongs adviser Mike Pakyntein said that the organisation aims to turn West Shillong into a charcoal and kerosene-free constituency within five years.
