NONGPOH: Ri Bhoi celebrated its first district holiday on Friday on the occasion of Shad Sajer.
This is the first time that the district marked this as a state festival. Shad Sajer is a well-known traditional dance and the annual festival of the Karew (Bhoi’s Tribe). The programme was organised by the Raid Nonglyngdoh and the Hima 12 Lyngdoh Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship at the Sacred Grove of Nonglyngdoh and the mini stadium at Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh.
Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah lauded the effort of the leaders of the Hima 12 Lyngdoh and different Raid for their struggle to preserve the culture of the Bhoi tribe and revive the traditional dances.
