SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) held a meeting with the District School Education Officer (DSEO), East Khasi Hills on Friday.
The objective of the meeting was to seek clarification on the disapproval to appoint B.Ed teachers for the post of principal or vice principal.
In a statement issued here, Babu Kular Khongjirem, president of KJDSTA, said that DSEO rejected the applications on the criteria that applicants should have a post graduate degree.
Khongjiram also said that the teachers have no promotion except to the post of a principal and some were appointed and retired as assistant teachers. The government did not inform the school about the criteria in the form of notices or orders until DSEO’s rejection.
The draft service rules on the services of government aided school teachers clearly mentioned that the post of principal and vice principal was not mandatorily eligible for only post graduate teachers.
The DSEO assured the KJDSTA to take up the matter at director level so that the deserving teachers are not deprived of their rights.
