NONGPOH: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) lodged a complaint with the Syiem of Raid Marwet, Ken Syiem, on Tuesday stating that Nepali immigrants had illegally settled in the area and their number was rising.
A delegation of HYC led by its president Warnes Lamin and including vice president Donbok Mannar and general secretary Johny Syiem submitted a memorandum to the Syiem, seeking his intervention in the matter.
Warnes said that Nepali settlers had also set up a village at Upper Narbong electing its own headman.
The settlers are also benefitted with government schemes.
The Syiem said that the settlers were not recognised by the Raid Dorbar and accused them of not respecting the Syiem and the leaders of the Dorbar and were also polluting the village.
The Dorbar promised to take action on the immigrants and lamented the award of schemes to the settlers without proper verification.
