SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctors’ Association has demanded immediate withdrawal of certificate mentioning inappropriate integrity, character and conduct given to Dr Tony Ete by NEIGRIHMS administration on March 22.
In a letter addressed to the NEIGRIHMS Director on Monday, the association has expressed disappointment and disgust over the issue and said that the character certificate given to Dr Ete, who has completed his DM Cardiology from NEIGRIHMS, is absolutely baseless and makes no sense.
“We consider it as an attempt to malign and insult the resident community intentionally by the NEIGRIHMS administration. We strongly condemn the most wicked behaviour of an Institute’s administration against own student who has served NEIGRIHMS unconditionally since the day of his joining in 2014. We believe that this has nothing to do with Dr Tony Ete’s academic conduct, but a personal grudge of the Director, Dean against the victim, which is very unbecoming of an administrative Head”, the statement said .
According to the association, Dr Ete, during his tenure, was a man of impeccable character, with good academic career and having highest number of publications among the Residents in NEIGRIHMS.
“We believe besides NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctor’s Association, all the members of the institute feel the same for him. It is sad, disgraceful and discouraging to see that an institute Head with its stooges is stooping this low to subject its own student to such misfortune”, the statement said
The association demanded immediate withdrawal of the character certificate issued by the Dean, Dr AC Phukan under proper guidance of the Director, NEIGRIHMS to Dr Ete , who is the former president of the association.
They wanted NEIGRIHMS to issue a proper certificate and issue unconditional apology failing which the association threatened to communicate with the national bodies and students’ associations across the Country and NGOs of North East states to fight against the injustice.
“If the genuine demand is not carried out within four days of receipt of this letter, a democratic movement will be carried out and administration is going to be held responsible for any adverse outcome”, the statement added.
