Cyclone leaves 40 families homeless in WKH

NONGSTOIN: Heavy rain accompanied by cyclone left 40 families homeless at Nongthliew, Umthlong Kyrsen, Umthlong Kharmuti and Langkyrteng in Mairang C&RD block in West Khasi Hills on Wednesday.
Several trees were uprooted and fell on electricity poles and wires causing power cut.
BDO of Mairang C&RD block V Swer said there are no casualties but some people were injured.
The injured have been identified as Hasting Kharthangmaw, Shaniah Mawlong and Desis Kharthangmaw of Umthlong village.
Swer informed that the storm severely damaged 40 houses.
Eyewitnesses said it was the first time they saw such a cyclone where CGI sheets flew in the sky like “pieces of paper”.
After being informed about the incident, the BDO of Mairang sent all block officials and staff to assess the damages and provide relief.
