Accident
Onibot Lamare of Laskein village in West Jaintia Hills lodged a complaint stating that on Wednesday around 3:30pm, his nephew Shitlang Lamare (9) boarded a Bolero pick-up driven by the complainant but fell down on the road and died on the spot.
On Wednesday around 4pm, Jingan B Marak (47) of Raksam Galima village in North Garo Hills sustained burn injuries while setting fire to heaps of slashed vegetation in his ‘jhum land’. He was admitted at PHC Bajengdoba for treatment.
On March 26 around 12:30 pm, an oil tanker (AS-01FC-9424) fatally knocked down a girl identified Jessica Paslein at Umkiang Alpha village in East Jaintia Hills.
Assault
Bebluth P Marak (20) of Lotnagar village in South Garo Hills, assaulted Ranjan M Sangma. The injured victim was later taken to Tura Civil Hospital.
Hun Suting lodged a complaint stating that on March 26 around 1 am, her husband, Rocky Pala, went to her residence at Umroh, Mawkasiang and assaulted her and their children and threatened them with dire consequences.
Drug bust
On March 25, Fairly Donald Sangma (22) was produced at Mawkyrwat PS by Skhemborlang Snaitang and KSU members who accused him of being a drug-addict and for selling drugs. On his leading, Police conducted a raid at the residence of Stevenson Tongwah at Nonglang village and recovered a small quantity of suspected drugs. Later, KSU members also produced four other alleged drug-addicts identified as Michael J Lyngdoh (29), Hiswilbedone Tongwah, Rubilang Snaitang (22) and Michael Nongsiej (27) at Mawkyrwat PS. All accused persons were later sent to CHC Mawkyrwat for medical examination.
Fraud
Grandly Biam of Umroi Madan village, Ri Bhoi lodged a complaint at Mawlai PS stating that Pyndapland Nongrum of Umbir village, Ri Bhoi took the vehicle of the complainant with a promise to pay for the same within six months, but failed to do so.
Hit-and-run
Dulu Sinha lodged a complaint stating that on March 10 between 4:30 pm to 5 pm, one unknown vehicle knocked down his brother Sapon Sinha (47) at Tongkiad village in West Jaintia Hills and fled away. The victim sustained grievous injuries and was taken to CH Jowai. He was later referred to NEIGRIHMS for better treatment but succumbed to his injuries on March 22.
Miscreants apprehended
On March 24 around 5:50 pm, six unidentified persons riding three scooties introduced themselves as Punjabis from Punjab and misbehaved in front of a family in Mylliem by using abusive language and gestures before fleeing the scene. However, three of the accused were apprehended by the public at 7th Mile in Upper Shillong.
Shops gutted
On Tuesday around 11:30 pm, a fire broke out at Iooksi Market in West Jaintia Hills. Shops belonging to Fatima Rabon and Lionat Rabon were gutted as a result.
Theft
Threson A Sangma lodged a complaint stating that on Tuesday, he along with his friends apprehended one Rikseng M Marak while attempting to steal his motorcycle at Garobadha in West Garo Hills.
On March 25, unknown miscreants broke into Sib Singh Memorial Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nongstoin and stole a computer monitor and printer worth Rs 22,100.
On March 25 around 11:30 pm, unknown miscreants stole batteries worth Rs 2,80,000 from a mobile tower at Memory Colony, Mooralong in Jowai.
On March 25, unknown miscreants broke into the house of Santosh Prasad Mali at Wahthio, Nongthymmai, and stole an LPG cylinder and a stove.
Pretingwell Momin lodged a complaint that on March 23 around 1 am, while he was on his way from Williamnagar towards Dainadubi Nogor village along with his companions in a vehicle (AS-01AH-0257), on reaching at Wa’geasi viewpoint (NGH), they were detained for about 40 minutes by around seven unknown-armed miscreants who snatched Rs 8,000 and three mobile phones from them.
Krostarly Nongdom, Secretary, Mawrusyiar village, lodged a complaint that on March 22 around 2 pm, Kynphamborlin Kharmusulman (26 yrs) stole iron rods from a construction site of Polytechnic Building at Mawrusyiar village, West Khasi Hills.
Wedding cancelled
KH Upendra Singh of Nongkhyriem, Nongthymmai, lodged a complaint that his daughter was engaged to be married to Ashok Kumar Singh on March 26. After the arrangements were made by the complainant amounting to Rs 4 lakh for the wedding, family members of the groom-to-be informed the complainant that the arrangements were not up to the mark and therefore, cancelled the wedding, incurring him a huge loss and leading to the defamation of his daughter.
