SHILLONG: Elected as MDC after 11 years, Martle Mukhim was recently felicitated by the residents of picturesque village of Lynshing.
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) MDC from Mawkynrew got emotional as tears rolled down when Mukhim remembered his journey as a public figure.
Speaking at the felicitation programme at Lynshing, Mukhim said he has been active in the public service for more than 50 years starting at the time when he was in Class VII, adding “My family members urged me to leave public service after losing several elections but my passion to serve the constituency kept me going.”
The veteran leader is a former minister and MDC. He defeated close contender Amanda Pakyntein, wife of PDF Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, in the council polls last year.
Mukhim was felicitated in the presence of other HSPDP leaders, MLAs Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Cabinet Minister Samlin Malniang.
MLA from Mawkyrwat, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the success of Mukhim augurs well for the constituency since the villages need an MDC more than an MLA who will look after the peace and harmony of the villages.
Meanwhile, Malniang likened Mukhim to a Dieng Bilat (The English Pine tree) who endured the disappointment of losing several elections he contested but finally won the MDC seat of Mawkynrew.
