TURA: A 7-year-old girl from West Garo Hills has been raped and the accused absconding in the plain belt region of West Garo Hills.
The incident allegedly took place on April 1st with a case being registered on Tuesday at the Tura Women PS.
According to reports, the 7-year-old was forcefully taken to a nearby secluded area where she was sexually assaulted by the accused. After the act, he threatened the girl from revealing about the incident. However, by the time she was able to speak to her parents about the incident, the accused had fled the village.
“A case has been registered and we are on the lookout for the absconding accused. All other procedures have been followed and a medical done on the child,” confirmed the WGH SP, Dr MGR Kumar.
Following the incident, the All Meghalaya Minority Students Union (AMMSU) has condemned the incident while also deciding to take out a rally to spread awareness of such crimes against women.
“We want the arrest of the accused and will be writing a complaint to the SP and DC of WGH. This is barbaric to say the least and the guilty person has to be caught and punished for what he did to the 7 year old child,” said president of AMMSU, Nur Islam
