Rabha community leaders extend support to Agatha

TURA: Giving a major boost to the NPP ahead of the April 11th polls, leaders of the Rabha community in Meghalaya have announced their support to the candidature of Agatha Sangma on Wednesday.

A decision to support the NPP candidate and Late P A Sangma’s youngest daughter was taken after a meeting between the former and members of the community at her residence in Tura on Mar 29 last week. The meeting was in the presence of the North Tura NPP MLA, Thomas Marak and the Raksamgre MLA, Benedict Marak.

The groups, which promised their support to Agatha included leaders of all Rabha NGOs, including the Rabha Jatiya Seva Sangha (RJSS), All Rabha Students Union (ARSU), All Rabha Women’s Welfare Association (ARWWA) and the Rabha Intellectual Forum (RIF).

The delegation was led by the presidents of the various Rabha organizations including Sandesh Bakshaka (president, RJSS), Lalit Rabha (president, ARSU), Sunita Rabha (president, ARWWA) and Lalmohan Rabha (general secretary of RIF)

“We met Agatha to convey our unanimous support for her candidature to the Tura Lok Sabha seat after meetings held between our leaders and community members,” said Khanin Rabha, the coordinator (in-charge) of the Rabha community in Meghalaya.

According to the leaders, Agatha has promised to look into the development of the community across the region on all aspects and it was on this assurance that they promised their support.

“We submitted a list of demands after consultations with our community members which included more opportunities, socio-economic and cultural development among others. She has promised to look into all aspects of problems faced by us. It is in this assurance that we have extended our unanimous support to her,” stated the Rabha leaders.
