9,000 state cops to ensure security for elections

SHILLONG: As many as 9,000 state police personnel will be deployed to ensure a free and fair poll on April 11.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said besides the state police, 1,780 home guard personnel and 40 companies of CRPF will also be deployed for the polls. Out of the 40 companies, 20 are from the state.
The official said for area domination, static surveillance team and flying squads are deployed especially to check violation of the model code of conduct.
These initiatives are to instill sense of security he added.
