Kharshiing quits Congress

SHILLONG: Congress leader John F Kharshiing quit the party on Friday.
In his resignation letter addressed to state president Celestine Lyngdoh, Kharshiing said in the interest of the core political issue of the Khasi-Jaintia-Garo people and after much thought, deliberation and consideration, he decided to resign as member of the Congress.
Kharshiing had held the post of vice president and general secretary of the party.
He said as a person who has been pursuing the issues related to strengthening traditional institutions, there is an urgent need to follow up the constitutional conflicts faced by the people.
Earlier, though the Nongkrem Block Congress Committee had recommended his name to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, the election committee of the party did not consider his candidature.
The MPCC has accepted the resignation of Kharshiing.
