ADOKGRE, NORTH GARO HILLS: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president, Celestine Lyngdoh on Saturday appealed to people here to vote for party candidate for Tura Lok Sabha constituency, Mukul Sangma, who he said was the more experienced and able candidate to address the issues of Garo Hills in Delhi.
Addressing a rally while campaigning for the former Meghalaya chief minister who kicked of his North Garo Hills campaign here on Saturday afternoon, Lyngdoh said there was no comparison between Mukul Sangma and the other candidates in the fray, Agatha Sangma of National People’s Party and Rikman G Momin of Bharatiya Janata Party.
“He (Mukul) is like gold while the others are like bronze and tin. So, when I was on my way from Shillong to here,  I was trying to compare but could not as there is hardly anything to compare. Dr Mukul is experienced and has a track record of good governance, performance and efficient delivery mechanism,” the MPCC president said.
He further said the people have lost faith in the BJP-led government at the Centre who had promised 1 crore jobs to youths and lakhs of money to the common man before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“But they have failed to live up to those promises in the past five years which is why BJP lost in the Assembly elections in three states last year, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, ” he said.
Lyngdoh also said that the Congress would improve the NREG Scheme from 100 days to 150 days if it comes to power at the Centre. “The NREGS, conceptualised, designed and implemented by Congress, has changed lives of people in the nook and corner of rural India,” he said.
He further stated that the party would also fill up lakhs of job vacancies across departments if it came to power.
The MPCC president further said that Congress will win for the third time in Shillong parliamentary constituency as well.
