Men assaulted
SHILLONG: Khlur Pohsnem lodged a complaint that on March 24 at 1 pm, Paul Marbaniang along with his wife and son namely Aibanshngain Diengdoh and 30 others, went to his residence at Mawlai Umjaiur, Block-3 and threatened the complainant and his son, Constantine Malngiang with dire consequences. The accused persons also assaulted his son and his two friends- Dondor Kharbudon and Richard Malngiang. As a result, Constantine sustained injuries and was admitted at Shillong Civil Hospital.
Conference-cum-workshop held
SHILLONG: A conference cum workshop was held at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) titled “Hygeia” on Friday to observe the Swachhta Pakhwada. The conference focused on disseminating proper sanitation and hygiene practices to the delegates and institution representatives present there.The workshop included subjects of hand hygiene, cleaning tools, cleaning methods and protocols, automation in cleaning, Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016, transmission based precautions, cough etiquette, needle stick injuries and its prophylaxis. During the programme, a guest lecture was delivered by the faculty of Institute of Hotel Management, Shillong on best housekeeping practices in hospitals. Around 90 students from North Eastern Hill University, William Carrey University, Martin Luther Christian University, Women’s College and NEIGRIHMS participated.
KSU Mawprem office bearers
SHILLONG: The central executive council of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) elected new office bearers of its Mawprem circle on Thursday. In a statement, the general secretary of the union’s Mawprem circle, Sambha Kupar Shylla, said KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar confirmed the oath to the newly elected members. The meeting was held at the community hall at Dorbar Shnong, Lumkshaid where the members decided to look into issues like influx and drug menace, among others. The new members are Arristone Thabah as president, Badonkupar Nongbri as vice president and Sambha Kupar Shylla as general secretary, besides 20 executive members.
97 pc MRVC coverage
TURA: The South Garo Hills district achieved 97 per cent coverage in the implementation of Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) held on October 1 last year. There were 50,193 targeted beneficiaries. A total of 4,380 rapid convenience monitoring (RCM) was conducted across the district and 4,228 children were assessed. “97 per cent children were found vaccinated and the remaining will be covered during sweeping activity,” District Medical and Health Officer, South Garo Hills, Lily Sengme Marak said in a District Review Meeting at Civil Hospital here. Certificate of appreciation was given to all stakeholders and best performing Community Health Centers and Primary Health Centers in the district. HB Marak, DC cum chairman of the District Health Society, South Garo Hills said that MRVC was a challenge to the doctors and health workers given the limited resources and connectivity issues.

Certificates of appreciation were given to those involved in the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign (MRVC) 2018 in West Garo Hills on Friday at Bakdil Training Centre, Chandmary here. The certificates were awarded for 102 per cent achievement and successful implementation of the campaign. Speaking on the occasion, the DC, West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, congratulated the efforts of the Health department and staff and others for their continuous support in implementing the vaccination campaign in the district.
