SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has criticised a national news portal for publishing a one-sided report about the NIT scuffle.
KSU’s NEHU unit president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said in a statement issued on Monday that he was “shocked and deeply appalled” by the incident involving the NIT students who are staying inside NEHU campus.
Reacting to the report Shillong: Hostel brawl leaves students trapped for 12 hours on the website of The Wire, Sanmiet said the version of the local students who were the victims was not taken and the news portal falsely accused them of being drunk.
“The direct allegation that was targeted against the members of Khasi Students’ Union is nothing but a way to bring a lamentable reputation to the union,” he said, adding that the unit has been fighting for the causes of the students in the university.
Pointing out that despite lack of hostels on the campus, “we are not against accommodation of the NIT students as we understand that they too are in the same path like us”.
Meanwhile, Banrisha Lyngdoh lodged a complaint that on April 7 at 3 pm, 50-60 members of HYC, KSU and others went inside NIT Boys’ Hostel in Lapalang and vandalised hostel properties, vehicle windows, CCTV cameras and stole the CCTV recorder.
