SHILLONG: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has criticised the BJP’s manifesto asserting that the party wants to replace indigenous people of North East with Bangladeshi infiltrators.
In a statement issued here, CoMSO condemned BJP’s manifesto committing the party to enactment of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) despite voices of protests from the people of the region.
The organisation said it is an insult to the indigenous people of North East.
“We warn the BJP and other parties not to interfere with our way of life and leave us as we are. If the BJP or any other party for that matter tries to forcefully implement CAB in the state, then be rest assured that the sons of the soil are ready to protect our motherland at any cost,” the statement said.
It also observed that BJP’s argument of religious persecution of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan is false and concocted and it is trying to mislead the citizens of the country.
The organisation questioned whether such claims of persecution in these countries were raised by India in any world forum such as the United Nations.
“CoMSO would also like to know, what action the government has taken to pressurize these three nations to stop religious persecution, if any, and whether any sanctions were imposed against them?” the statement said. It also stated that it will not allow any party to introduce CAB or similar legislation which seeks to grant citizenship and shelter to the illegal immigrants and will fight tooth and nail to resist such an attempt to dilute demography, culture and heritage.
