SangmaWhile coming out to cast his vote in Tura, the NPP president regarding the high-profile electoral battle between NPP candidate Agatha Sangma and former Meghalaya chief minister and Congress candidate Dr Mukul Sangma, told a TV channel  based here that “It is a positive day. It has been a good contest in Tura. We have worked very hard and the opposition too has worked hard. Now it is up to the voters to decide. I appeal to people to come out in large numbers to exercise their power of vote.”

Tura has witnessed intensive electioneering by both the NPP and the Congress. Agatha Sangma, a former Union Minister and Dr Mukul Sangma , the previous state chief minister have solid bases in the constituency.

The Opposition Congress in Meghalaya as put a high price on the prestigious Tura Parliamentary Constituency which used to be represented by quintessential Late Purna A Sangma, father of Agatha,  for a longtime till his death, and has the party had fielded its most powerful leader in Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma  there.

In another words, Congress really doesn’t have someone as formidable as Mukul Sangma  to challenge Agatha Sangma, daughter of late  P A Sangma and sister of incumbent chief minister Conrad Sangma.
