Assam records 78.23 % polling in first phase

GUWAHATI:  Assam recorded 78.23 % polling in the first phase of Lok Sabha election that was held on  Thursday in five of the constituencies in the state –Tezpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur.

As per the final first-phase polling percentage provided by the  office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here, Kaliabor recorded highest polling percentage at 82.09 % followed by Tezpur at 79.15 %, Jorhat at 77.49 %, Dibrugarh 77.26 % and Lakhimpur at 74.81 %. The average  polling  was recorded at 78.23 %.

The BJP is aspiring to retain Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur and Lakhimpur Constituencies while Congress is fighting the polls to retain Kaliabor constituency.
