SHILLONG: NEHUSU president Genuica Majaw filed an FIR on Thursday at Rongram police station in West Garo Hills against the administration of NEHU Tura campus and the labourers who allegedly teased her.
In the FIR, Majaw mentioned the name of Pro Vice-Chancellor G Singaniah and proctor Gino A. Sangma. She also reported that she was being teased and her modesty was being outraged by the seven labourers.
As for the stone pelting incident, she said the union was forced to admit to the act after they were under pressure from Sangma.
Further, she mentioned about Singaniah’s alleged racist statement when he said, “I do not want to shake the hands of your kind of people,” which Majaw asserted “is an act of racial and gender abuse”.
She said Sangma tried to snatch their IDs and she felt harassed and her modesty as a woman was outraged.
Majaw said there was a verbal agreement that the matter would be solved amicably by both parties taking into account that the NEHUSU would solve the grievances of the students in the Tura campus.
Meanwhile, KSU has warned non-tribals staying in Meghalaya to refrain from making racist statements.
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah, said the union extends its support to NEHUSU and expressed concern over the ill-treatment of the NEHUSU by the administration of NEHU Tura campus on April 7 and 8.
The KSU also condemned the high handedness of the pro vice-chancellor of the NEHU Tura campus in which they refused to meet them and made racial statements, stating that the union will not tolerate any racial statement made against the Khasi community.
The KSU also condemned the eve-teasing incident and demanded punishment to all those involved in the incident.
They also condemned the high-handedness of the Proctor in which he threatened the NEHUSU office bearers and snatched their Identity cards.
On the FIRs filed by the warring parties, the NEHU Tura campus and the NEHUSU, the KSU said the NEHU permanent campus should intervene into the internal matter which sends a bad signal on the reputation of the university.
The KSU urged the parties to resolve their differences and to withdraw their respective FIRs.
