Informing this here on Tuesday, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that the Government always  wanted  to bring administration closer to the  people but  it was facing  challenges in creating a new district because of financial issues

“Given an opportunity, we would like to do it but challenge has come because of financial issues. We would like to do it but also have to take into consideration the financial implications ,” he  said.

Different leaders from Sohra and nearby areas are of the view that the proposed South East Khasi Hills district should comprise of areas like Sohra, Pynursal and Shella.

The last time when new districts were created in Meghalaya was in the year  2012  when the previous MUA Government had created four new districts including  East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, South West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.
