SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has blamed the previous MUA government for the load shedding in the state.
He said the state’s dues of over Rs 550 crore, which is yet to be paid to NEEPCO, is because of the previous government and the state is bearing the brunt of load shedding for almost 3-4 hours every day.
Sangma said that the dues of over Rs 550 crore have accumulated for the past  8-9  years when the Congress  ruled the state. He added that if the commitments and payments were done at an appropriate time, accumulation of such a huge amount would not have happened.
Making it  clear that it is not possible to clear the dues at one go, he added the government is trying to improve its relationship with NEEPCO  be it in terms of projects or policies while at the same time, attempts are being made to clear the dues.
“Things are much more positive than what it was when we had taken over,” he said while adding that the government cannot come out of the situation immediately.
