TURA: A 13 year old girl who disappeared from her home in Mendal village of North Garo Hills has been rescued by police from Guwahati city where she was abandoned by her abductor to work in a food joint.
The teenager was noticed missing by her family on the morning of March 17th and despite search could not be found.
North Garo Hills police launched an investigation and identified one person by the name of Rikkan Ch Sangma (23) of Aruak Songgitalgre who had lured the minor away.
The suspect used to work as a labourer in a construction company in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and was allegedly involved in petty crimes also. During course of investigation it was found that the suspect had visited Mendal village and the house of the girl before her disappearance.
He was taken into custody and during interrogation reportedly revealed that he had handed the girl over to a client in Guwahati where she was being made to work in a small restaurant cleaning utensils.
As the minor had a active mobile connection with her, police zeroed in on a house in Paltan Bazar of Guwahati and successfully rescued her on Tuesday.
This is one of the very few successful cases of missing girls being found and reunited with their families.
North Garo Hills superintendent of police, Sacheng Marak said that well coordinated efforts from police, citizens and the use of technology helped to bring back the minor girl safely to her family.
