SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister and UDP MLA from Khliehriat, Kyrmen Shylla said as per reports he received, there are chances that Congress will lead in Jaintia Hills although with a small margin in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.
However, the minister added, “We hope to win the election. The allies in the MDA were also working hard for the victory of UDP candidate, Jemino Mawthoh.”
Mawthoh was a consensus candidate of the MDA coalition.
According to Shylla, people have confidence in the regional parties and they are looking forward for a change.
He said, “Whoever has the heart to serve the people and works hard for the state, we want such a person to win.”
As far as the Shillong parliamentary seat is concerned, the supporters of UDP and Congress have indicated a tough fight between the candidate of UDP, Jemino Mawthoh and Congress’s Vincent Pala.
Pala is eyeing a hat-trick while Mawthoh is hoping for his maiden win to the LS seat.
However, political observers point out that anyone who gets maximum votes from constituencies in Shillong city will win the elections.
The verdict will be out on May 23.
