Nongpoh district court convicts four accused in various crimes

NONGPOH: The Court of the District & Sessions Judge, Ri Bhoi has convicted four accused persons for committing various crimes.
The four accused, who were convicted as per relevant sections of law include Daniel Syiemiong, Denis Mukhim, Alexander Marwein and Diskolan Rani.
Daniel Syiemiong from Lumdiengngan, an accused booked for murdering his father, was convicted for offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs. 40,000.
In default of payment of fine, the convicts will have to undergo another 1 year of simple imprisonment. He was also convicted for an offence under Section 201 of the IPC for concealing of evidence, in which he will face rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years along with a fine of Rs. 5,000 and in default, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for a further period of 3 months and that the imprisonment will run concurrently.
Another accused, Denis Mukhim was convicted for offence under Section 376/511 of the IPC and was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and 6 months.
He will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of payment of fine, the accused will undergo another 6 months of rigorous imprisonment.
As per the Umiam PS case, Alexander Marwein was convicted for offence US 452/354A (i) (ii) & (iii) of IPC. For offence US 452 IPC the accused was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 7 years with a fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo simple imprisonment for 6 months. For offence US 354A (i) (ii) & (iii) IPC, the accused was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years along with a fine of Rs 5000 and in default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo another simple imprisonment for one month.
Another accused, Diskolan Rani, as per Nongpoh PS case (US 307/326 IPC) was found to have committed grievous hurt by dangerous weapon on the victim and hence he was convicted under Section 326 of the IPC. The court sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs. 40,000 and in default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo imprisonment for another one year.
