Jowai: An 18-tyre truck and a six- tyre container truck broke down at Wah Mynso in NH-6 on April 20. The trucks caused a huge traffic snarl along the highway.
On April 20 at 8 am, the 18-tyre-truck trailer bearing registration no (PB05AB 7175) loaded with materials of the railways broke down at Wah Mynso on NH-6. Instructions were given to the driver to call for the recovery van or mechanics to move the vehicle as it would create traffic jam. However, the driver locked the cabin, took the keys and left. The police tried to arrange for cranes to pull the truck trailer but as the load on the truck was too much it could not be done and it was not easy for normal recovery vans to pull.
Again on the same day, another six-tyre container truck carrying goods of Maruti Suzuki bearing registration no (WB 23 C 0701) broke down just behind the truck trailer. Due to this, traffic problem was caused in the area. With the overtaking of cars, it led to a traffic snarl from Wah Mynso to Ummulong and from Wah Mynso towards Puriang.
On April 21, the police again called for recovery vans and managed to shift the container truck to the side of the road. However, the driver and the owner of the 18-tyre truck trailer did not turn up to tow the vehicle. In addition to this, the heavy flow of vehicles due to the Lympung of Seng Khihlang and other heavy vehicles carrying commodities coupled with the insensitive behavior of drivers overtaking each other added to the burden of the traffic movement.
Till date, the owner and the driver of the truck trailer are yet to appear while the container truck has been moved and seized.
