12-year-old drowns in Simsang river

TURA: A 12-year-old boy drowned while taking a bath in Simsang river on Wednesday. The boy identified as Akash Rajbangshi hails from Rongsak in East Garo Hills went to take a bath with other children when the incident happened.
Akash joined a group of friends from their locality of Rongsak Bazar to enjoy a cool bath in the river to beat the summer heat.
They were taking a bath in the river at around 11 in the morning when strong currents dragged him into the deep water leading to his death. He was pulled out of the water and rushed to Rongsak health centre where doctors declared him dead.
With the peak of summer season many people especially children and youths, head to the rivers in Garo Hills to cool off. There have also been many cases of death from drowning. Authorities have urged families to be cautious with children in river side during this season.
