SHILLONG: The KSU NEHU unit on Thursday met the authorities of the university to demand the opening up of Masters Degree Programs for colleges in the state.
In a memorandum submitted to the Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Sri Krishna Srivastava who is also the chairman of the Academic Council, the union has urged the university to come with Masters Degree programmes in various colleges in the state affiliated to NEHU and should be as per the guidelines laid down by the UGC.
The union led by its president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet discussed the matter with the VC, Pro VC, Henry Lamin and director of Colleges Development Council (CDC), C.A.R. Diengdoh.
According to the union, many students are discouraged from pursuing further studies as there is less number of seats in the university.
The university authorities have accepted the union’s suggestions and assured the delegation to examine the matter. The authorities informed that permission will be granted to colleges to open PG Courses if they fulfill the UGC guidelines.
