SHILLONG: The Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, PN Syiem is of the view that stability will be there in the District Councils once the anti-defection law is implemented.
The statement came from PN Syiem in the wake of his recent war of words with another Deputy Chief Executive Member, Pyniaid Sing Syiem over certain comments made inside the House.
Syiem said that as the Chairman of the council, it is his duty to guide all the members to do their homework properly and not requiring notice all the time, adding that his duty is to see that the House is guided properly.
Asserting that there is no difference in the party following the dispute, he added that Pyniad Syiem is a very junior MDC who should be guided by the rules.
On being asked if such disputes would ultimately led to the toppling of the EC and provoke rumblings in the Council, he said that the toppling of the EC depended on leadership in the absence of the Tenth Scheduled.
“ It should be the duty of the CEM to take everyone along and decide on the issues collectively,” he said.
Asserting that there are no cracks in the EC, he added that there would not be any problem in the EC if all the grievances of the MDCs were attended to.
“ The proposed amendment on the anti-defection is yet to be approved and it will take time and once we have the Tenth Schedule, stability will be there in the council,” he said.
Last month, Deputy Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Prestone Tynsong had urged members who are in the ruling coalition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to ensure stability of the Executive Committee (EC). This advice from Tynsong came following the squabble between two MDCs of the NPP.
