SHILLONG: A health camp organised by the Department of Allied Health Sciences of Martin Luther Christian University, was held in Umtong village, Mawkynrew Block on Saturday.
About 100 locals, including infants, turned up in order to have their anthropometric measurements taken and vital signs evaluated.
Volunteers from Bansara Eye Care also provided free eye check ups to everyone.
Doctors were made available throughout the day for free consultations while medication was provided free of cost.
Locals and residents of nearby villages lauded the efforts of MLCU in organising such a camp.
Speaking to this correspondent, one of the villagers said, “The only access to healthcare that we have is a PHC that is situated at a considerable distance from the village. We get to go there if we have transportation, if not, we have to forego our checkup. The service provided there is also not very regular. Hence, this camp is really a boon for us as we’re getting such a benefit after a very long time.”
