3 die as boat capsizes at Thoubal Dam in Manipur

GUWAHATI: Three persons including one young woman girl who are feared dead after a boat carrying 12 local tourists capsized at upper stream of Thoubal Dam in Manipur.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the dam when sudden thunder storm with high speed winds overturned the boat. There were 12 passengers, all local tourists, on the boat made of wood and plastic barrel underneath.

Out of the three feared dead, there were two brothers from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou of Bishnupur District namely Sagakpam Rajiv (35) and his brother Romen (29). The third victim was identified as Ningthoujam Rani (19).

Out of the 12 passenger 9 were rescued by other boats. Later on personnel of State Police and State Disaster Respond Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and were later joined by 12th Battalion of  National Disaster Respond Force (NDRF) in the search operation.

The search operation again started on Monday morning by the combined teams using under water diving equipment and motor boats.
