NONGPOH: A group of unknown miscreants on Tuesday allegedly vandalized the residence of Michael Warjri, the Secretary of Hima Nongspung at Balakhawa village  in Ri Bhoi District.

A group of unidentified persons suddenly attacked and vandalized the property of Michael Warjri. However, there was no report of injuries or  casualty  so far related to the incident.

The District Administration officials from Ri Bhoi led by DP Kharsati along with a team of Policemen led by the Superintendent of Ri Bhoi, C Syrti, rushed to the spot to prevent any further law and order problems which may arise due to the incident and also to take stock of the situation.

Meanwhile,  Magistrates from Kamrup District of  Assam along with Assam  Police personnel also rushed to Balakhawa village to maintain law and order apprehending  breaking out of clashes between the residents of Meghalaya and Assam.

As per the preliminary inquiry conducted by the District Administration of Ri Bhoi, it was informed that the root cause of the attack against the Secretary of Hima Nongspung might be  because of his vocal oppositions against the ongoing construction of a PMGSY road at Balakhawa village by the Assam Government.

It was also informed, that the Secretary miraculously escaped unhurt in the attack after he fled from the scene and his whereabouts was not yet known till filing of this report.

It  is also alleged that the attack by an angry mob on Michael Warjri is because of his vocal stand against many Government schemes from Assam which were allegedly supposed to be implemented in villages falling under the jurisdiction of Meghalaya.
