State-level Taekwondo c’ship concludes in city

SHILLONG: Taekwondo Academy of Khasi Hills bagged the champions’ trophy in the 1st Surju Tamang Memorial State-Level Taekwondo Championship organised by Self Defence Martial Arts Training Centre on May 4-5 at Laban Indoor Stadium.
The opening ceremony on May 4 was attended by M Kharkrang, IPS, as the chief guest while the chief guest for the closing ceremony was Davis NR Marak, IPS.
The championship was attended by a special guest – Master Wan Yong Lee, 7th Dan Black Belt from Kukkiwon, South Korea, a member of the Asian Taekwondo Union Technology and Development Committee and a Grand Master at the Korean Culture Centre.
Altogether 355 athletes from 13 different institutions participated in the two-day championship.
Taekwondo Academy of Khasi Hills were the overall champions with 46 gold medals. Self Defence Martial Arts Training Centre bagged the first runner-up trophy with 21 gold medals, while Meghalaya Police Taekwondo Association was the second runner-up with 4 gold medals.
