NONGPOH: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) North Khasi Hills will organise a sit-in demonstration at Nongpoh, the District headquarter of Ri Bhoi on May 14, in protest against the failure of the state government to seek early release of Michael Warjri, the Secretary of Hima Nongspung from the custody of the Assam police.

Luistar Lyngdoh, General Secretary of the FKJGP NKH while taking to media persons at Nongpoh on Sunday said that the Federation is deeply concerned over the incident which took place on May 7, where the residential house of the Secretary of Hima Nongspung was vandalised by the miscreants from adjoining villages of New Balakhwa. The miscreants had also assaulted and tried to murder Michael Warjri in an attempt to silence his voice against the move of the Assam Government to forcefully implementing a PMGSY road constructed on the jurisdiction of the Hima Nongspung and Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh also informed that the sit-in demonstration will begin from 9 AM till 4 PM on May 14. Members of the Federation which include the Presidents and Secretaries of all Units and Circle from Ri Bhoi District will take part in the sit-in demonstration.
