NONGPOH: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) North Khasi Hills will organise a sit-in demonstration at Nongpoh on Tuesday in protest against the failure of the state government to seek early release of Michael Warjri, secretary of Hima Nongspung from the custody of Assam police.
Luistar Lyngdoh, general secretary, told media persons on Sunday that the federation is concerned over the incident which took place on May 7, where the house of Warjri was vandalised by miscreants from adjoining villages of New Balakhwa.
The miscreants had also assaulted and tried to kill him in an attempt to silence his voice against the move of the Assam government to forcefully construct a PMGSY road in the jurisdiction of the Hima Nongspung and Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh also informed that the sit-in demonstration will staged from 9 am to 4 pm.
Members of the federation which include the presidents and secretaries of all units and circle from Ri Bhoi district will take part in the sit-in.
