City woman alleges torture by in-laws, husband for dowry

SHILLONG: A case of dowry and torture was reported by a resident of Fourth Furlong, Shillong.
The victim identified as Sima Deb has alleged that her husband Rajan Deb and her in-laws demanded dowry from her and when she failed to fulfilled their demand they started abusing her physically and verbally.
Sima had married Rajan in 2016, however, after few months into marriage her husband started to beat her up.
Her brother-in-law, Nishit Deb and his wife Joba Deb also tortured Sima and demanded for bed, sofa set, mattress and others.
She claimed her in-laws were unhappy when she gave birth to a female child as they wanted a male child and when she was pregnant with the second baby, they tried to hurt her in order to have the baby aborted.
On April 27, she was beaten up by my husband and her brother-in-law who is a police person designated as S.I. posted at Shillong Sadar Police Station. The brother in-law threatened her not to file a complaint.
Sima complaint against them reporting the incident before the Pasture Beat House
with copies served to Shillong S.P. Office Crime Branch, Women Commission.
Sima alleged that no action was taken till date and her FIR is not yet been registered.
